Growing up in Spain, Puri was always aware that her deep love for chocolate was a gift passed down from her father. However, it wasn't until his passing that she discovers another legacy left behind for her—a cocoa plantation in Vinces, Ecuador, affectionately dubbed “París Chiquito.” With the ashes of World War I behind them, Puri, alongside her husband Cristóbal, embarks on a voyage across the Atlantic, hopeful for what the future holds in her newfound inheritance.

Their journey takes a tragic turn when an assassin targeting Puri mistakenly kills Cristóbal. In a daring move, Puri adopts her late husband's identity, donning his garments as a disguise to protect herself while she delves into the mysteries of her father's estate in Ecuador. This identity swap liberates her from societal expectations placed on women, yet Puri faces unforeseen trials—unearthing siblings she never knew, navigating concealed romances, and uncovering the bleak truths hidden by her father. Additionally, Puri finds herself drawn to a mysterious figure, even as she strives to uncover the adversary who continues to threaten her aspirations for a new beginning.

A captivating tale for admirers of Julia Alvarez and Silvia Moreno-Garcia, this riveting narrative whisks you away to the vibrant terrain of 1920s Ecuador. It masterfully intertwines familial intrigue, perilous enigmas, and the authentic historical backdrop of a town heralded as the “birthplace of cacao.”

Dude looks like a lady.

Well, more like Lady looks like a dude. I was hooked by the second chapter and I just couldn't put it down. And of course they had me at Chocolate. Such a great book, and the gifts are really cool. There's actually a really nice one for those who are into chocolate making.
I definitely recommend it.
